One of the ways that the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway supports the development of our clergy and lay readers is through our Clergy Learning Accounts (CLAs). Each year we budget 1% of the total clergy stipend into an account for each active clergy person and lay reader. For 2024 that amount is: £329.88. Money in each individual account can accrue for up to three (3) years, but money not used within three (3) years is lost. Thus, a minister could choose to let the money build over three years to (approximately, at 2024 levels) £911.28 and then use that amount towards a more expensive course or programme.
Funds from the CLA can be used for a wide range of courses and activities that enhance the development of the individual minister. Some recent examples of how people have chosen to use their CLA funds:
•Icon Writing Course
•Preachers of Excellence Conference Attendance
•Supplementing Tuition for a Master’s Degree
•Book Binding Course
•Ignatian Retreat
•Maranatha Yoga Training
•Purchasing Theological Texts
The sky is the limit! We are here to support you in your development and discipleship as the Spirit leads you. Simply submit the CLA claim form to the Canon Missioner for approval and she will process your reimbursement with the Diocesan Treasurer.
